Cultural Landscapes: Youth and Adult Painting Workshops

For registration for the youth workshop, you can register here.

For registration for the adult workshop, register here.

Participants: youth aged 13-17 and adult 18+, limited enrollment, all skill levels

Type: visual arts, registration and all materials provided free of charge

Description: Clapboard saltbox houses, wooden dories and skiffs, crooked wharves and docks, rickety fishing stages and sheds, stunted trees and rocks—these are the visuals many landscape artists associate with the coastal communities of Newfoundland and Labrador. In this two-hour workshop, participants will paint land and seascapes of Newfoundland and Labrador. Participants will be encouraged to work from their own photographs, focusing on scenes that hold significance for them, personally; however, they may also follow the instructor’s lead and paint along with her selection, which will feature a scene from the Corner Brook – Bay of Islands region. Participants will create one original painting, working through the stages of selecting their subject matter, sketching, underpainting, palette-mixing and painting. The following web-based resource offers examples of the style of landscape painting of the instructor. Participants will also receive a copy of Newfoundland and Labrador Seascapes (a colouring book based on the works of the instructor). All materials will be included and there is no fee to participate.
